MiDAS Driver Assessor Development

If community transport is going to be sustainable locally, the capability to assess drivers has to sit locally too. This section sets out a longer-term pathway for people who might become assessors with us.

A pathway we are planning, not a programme you can join

Community Ride Hub is not a MiDAS accredited training centre and has no assessors in post. There is no start date and no funding attached to this pathway today. You can submit an expression of interest on the pathway page so we know who to contact when the prerequisites are in place — that is not an application and does not reserve a place.

Why grow our own assessors

Buying in assessment for every driver is slow and expensive, and it puts a ceiling on how quickly we can bring new drivers into service. A qualified assessor inside the organisation means drivers can be assessed in our own vehicles, on the roads and routes they will actually drive, at the point they are ready rather than when an external diary allows.

It also opens the door to supporting other local organisations with their own drivers, which is the ambition described on our training for organisations page.

  • The assessor role

What a driver assessor actually does day to day, and the judgement the role demands.

  • Candidates

Who this suits, what we would look for, and what we would not require.

  • Quality assurance

How we would keep assessment consistent, fair and defensible over time.

What we are not saying

  • We are not offering assessor training, and we cannot certificate anyone as an assessor.
  • We are not guaranteeing paid work, hours or a role to anyone who registers interest.
  • We have not set dates. Any timescale would depend on accreditation, vehicles and funding.
  • Registering interest creates no obligation on either side.
